| I had the pleasure of being invited to see The Bite play at the Inn On The Green In Ockley last night. I was looking forward to it but did not set my expectations too high as it was billed as a ‘warm up’ gig to let the band’s new lead singer Holly settle in and try out new songs. The band was also forced to wait until the World Cup match had finished before they could go on. During this time they set up their equipment, the quality of which should have given a clue as to the quality of the music to follow…. The set list was varied an included 70’s new wave classics from the likes of The Undertones and The Buzzcocks, 80’s pop from Queen, Elton John etc. through to more modern material including the Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs and Greenday. The entire performance was excellent, the musicians are of a very high standard and Holly looked a natural from the start. You would not have known it was her ‘warm up’ gig. She quickly got the locals on her side (who before the band started were more interested in the football!). By the end of the night there were plenty of air guitars and head-banging and cries of ‘MORE!’. Thanks to the landlord the Bite played a late encore to finish the night of in style. The highlights of the evening for me were the American Idiot / Pretty Vacant combination, KT Tunstall’s ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree' and Garbage’s ‘Paranoid’. I think Holly’s voice is particularly suited to KT Tunstall / Shirley Manson type songs. To sum up: A big thanks to The Bite for a great night, I hope to see you play in Horsham soon. The Bite are available for bookings for weddings etc. If you want a high quality band with material that would appeal to a wide-ranging age group I would whole-heartedly recommend them.
